Hello and wellcome!

Hello! And welcome to Morkin Newsletter!

Morkin is in an advanced stage of beta testing. Fixing, improving… the truth is, I think I’m close to a final version, and I’m really eager to reach that point because I want to start working on the layout, adding the fantastic illustrations by Miguel Romero (an example of them is the Skulkrin Patriarch, opening this newsletter)

Here are some images from the last two games I played, so you can get a glimpse of the game in action.

The first game ended quickly. After recruiting Lord Shadows by crossing his forest and heading north, I decided to approach the Ruin of Ashimar, where we were told of a mission to undertake inside. Unfortunately, it was inhabited by Ice Trolls.

After an encounter with an Ice Troll Beastmaster in an ancient hall that left us somewhat battered, we descended to a lower level via some stairs we found. There, we were met by an Ice Troll Chieftain who finished us off.

What you see is the sheet used to create the dungeons in the game (ruins and caverns). It’s a work in progress. The final version should be more polished.

The second game is still ongoing. Not only have I recruited Lord Shadows, but also the mighty dragon Farflame the Dragonlord, which gives Morkin much more confidence.

As you can see (the map is still a work in progress), after leaving the Forest of Shadows, where we had some rather unpleasant encounters, we ventured into the Ruin of Ashimar. This time, our fortunes improved—the quest was simpler, and there were no Ice Trolls (although we did encounter Despair Spiders…).
After regaining our strength, we pressed on to the Ruin of Dodrak. There, we came perilously close to losing our lives but managed to escape after falling into a pit that led us to an unknown level.
Once we recovered at the Keep of Dodrak, we restocked our supplies, bandages, and a few potions with the money earned from exploring the two ruins. From there, we resumed our journey northward. Unfortunately, progress was slower than we’d hoped, as Lord Shadows doesn’t own a horse…

Morkin is a table-top, solo-player game inspired by The Lords of Midnight, the strategy and adventure epic fantasy game created by Mike Singleton and first released for the ZX Spectrum in 1984. The Lords of Midnight is often ranked among the greatest role-playing and strategy games of the 1980s.

You will step into the role of Morkin as he embarks on his quest to destroy the Ice Crown. Played on a hexagonal map, the game blends role-playing elements with strategic exploration and adventure. All you will need to play Morkin is the book, a pencil, eraser, a few dice and your imagination.
